I downloaded an mp3 or two a couple of days ago. One of them is 6.47 MB big but it doesn't play, the file is corrupt. I opened it in a text editor and it obviously looks just like any other mp3 file, and obviously the jibberish doesn't make any sense. Does anyone know of any software that can parse an mp3 and say what's wrong with it, and maybe even fix it? Thanks

Nope - tried that, so the file is corrupt at source.

Got it:

1. Visit http://www.s2services.com/mp3.htm
2. Scroll down to the second product, MP3 Repair Tool
3. Right-click where it says Download>> and save the zip file. Alternatively do it here: http://www.aspect-one.com/dl.php?id=mp3rt

It workslike this: an mp3 is made of multiple frames, each of which contains data, and which can become corrupt. This program can remove the first, the first two, the first three, etc frames from an mp3.

I removed the first one and it worked. Success!
