Hi guys, I'm from funkysnooker. As Spinner will know, I've had a really big problem the funkysnooker members couldn't solve. So I have come over to you. I have been trying to get into funkysnooker for absoloutely ages now. And everytime I click "enter game", the game seems to close after about 2 seconds of poping up.

Have any of you guys seen this before?

Also, Please dont suggest updating java or anything to do with downloading, because my computer is far too slow to download anything, if you have a suggestion on how to make my computer faster as well, please tell me.

Thanks, sean_paul.

Hi Sean.

I know we have been through a lot of this before but lets start afresh.

What sort of internet connection do you have?

Do you have a fully up to date antivirus?

Have you run a full spyware scan?

Another thing is, how much free space do you have on your hard drive (C: drive)?

Sorry if this seems patronising, but if we take things slowly and go over every little ting, we may eventually get the games working for you again.

You can't unless you download a spyware remover or anti-virus.

Thats ok dont worry.

What i think has happened is that your computer has become bunged up with stuff, and needs a cleanout.

It can be quite awkward. Do you have someone who can help you?

Dont worry about the spyware scan yet.

Do you have broadband?

Ok.

Easiest way to free up space and speed up your computer is to run the disk cleanup.

Open "My Computer", and use the right mouse button to click the C: Drive, then select properties. like this :

Then click the "Disk Cleanup" button :

And let it run (It may take a while), then tick all the boxes EXCEPT compress old files, like this :

Reboot your computer and it should already be a bit better.

Ok. you're all clean!

next option is to look for an update option on Norton.

If you have a look for Norton in the start menu, there should be an entry called "Live Update"

Click this, and let it update.

Then, when its finished, look for the option to do a full system scan.

This will take a while, and sorry i cant offer screenshots, but i dont have Norton.

Ah!

We may have found the problem. It appears your Norton liscense hs run out (Its asking you to buy a new copy)

This is one of the many reasons i despise norton (personal opinion of course)

At this point, i'm afraid you cant avoid some downloading

You need to download and install AVG antivirus, and let it scan your computer.

It is completely free, and wont ever "run out" on you! And in case you are worried, its very very good. I use it at work to clean the computers with Norton installed which get infected.

Here is the direct link to the newest version : http://free.grisoft.com/filedir/inst/avg75free_484a1100.exe

I know you wanted to avoid downloading, but there's no choice here.

why not remove norton then if the license has expired?

or atleast remove its processes from msconfig.

(or pay for the update as i do)

The reason I don't want to download is exactly what is happening now, it says "estimated time:7 hrs 11 mins."

sean_paul using spinners screenshots above find out how large your "Local Disk (C:)" is and how free space there is.

Instructions:
-Go to my computer
-Right click on Local Disk (C:)
-select properties
-have a look at the section where it states the amount of free space and used space.

Ok, obviously you dont have broadband!

We really are quite limited at this point in options.

Going to control panel and un-installing Norton will definitely help speed up your system, and it is doing no good (not that it ever does!) anyway.

You will probably have to wait for your friend to come and help now.

I'm sorry i cant be any more help but the problem is you need some antivirus software, and probably a full windows update, and these do take forever using a normal dial-up connection.

Hopefully your mate will have a bunch of CD's with him with all these ready
