1) Firstly, download the zip file from http://paul.tannernet.com/stuff/duke3d .
2) Extract this directory to somewhere safe and neat (I recommend C:\Duke3d)
3) Download the grp file (from http://paul.tannernet.com/stuff/duke3d ) and extract it to the location where you extracted the zip {in step 2}

Duke3d is now installed for single player mode.

Next few steps are for multiplayer mode.

1) Download the latest dukesterx multiplayer client version from http://forums.dukesterx.net/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1 .
2) Extract to a temporary directory, such as desktop.
3) Run the setup.exe
4) Follow the on screen installation instructions.

1) Once installed, go to START >> programs/all programs >> fazsoftware >> dukesterx
2) Set up name, ip (If you have a router, click two arrows, set behind router/firewall to yes and set to natfree mode.
3) Click options, and in the second box down, put the filename to duke3d... IF you done in the example, you'd put C:\Duke3d\duke3d_w32_bin\bin\duke3d_w32.exe in the box.
4) Click ok, then click join. On first load it will do checks, simply wait til its finished, click join then join an internet game!
