Good news everyone! I've finished funkypool for Android smart phones and it's available at: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funkypool

The game is currently 8 ball and 9 ball, practice mode only. It is free and without adverts.

The control system has changed significantly compared to funkypool (see below for instructions).

I plan to bring out a low priced paid version with extra features after the basic version stability is achieved (currently it is in beta, so please beware the app may be updated a few times over the next few weeks).

Lastly apologies for my lack of input on the forum while working on this project, it's been fun, but very time consuming!

Instructions for Funkypool Android App
1. Touch to place the cue ball (same as on here)
2. Touch to aim.
3. Either:
- refine by moving the aim marker
- slide the cue marker towards the shot to shoot (same as on here, the faster the harder the shot)
4. Repeat!

Spinning is available. Where you press down on the cue ball marker chooses your spin!

I want it for all platforms where it is feasible.

The framework I used aims to eventually support iPhone, but if this doesn't happen and the Android version is successful I will port to iPhone. A lot of the changes are quite similar.

(For those that are interested in the technical side, the framework used is LibGDX, the significant change is converting the code from proprietary to OpenGL.)

As I haven't got it and I am not sure what is on it, is chat available? Of so how would this work on such a small screen with the table on it too? Can you access forums from the app? Would you be looking to introduce real games rather than just practice? If so can people on a phone play people in a computer or only others on the app? Would you need a connection in order to access the game? (after download)

Sorry about so many questions just very interested.

I haven't got a defined plan as yet, some of this depends on feedback.

The current released game is 8 ball practice or 9 ball practice only, there's no internet connection used in normal use (the app requires internet connection only for an open source crash logging utility called ACRA).

I want to initially cater for people commuting or without steady internet, so 2 players on 1 phone or 1 player vs computer will be the first priority. Only with significant userbase will I add and maintain a backend to play other users, but it's not priority until there is significant players.

So as I understand it, the aim is to cater for poor connections, travellers and to try in the process to expand the user base?

In that case will the twitter and Facebook sites be in use more to try and advertise on their sites to try and increase the user amounts, which in turn would more than likely increase the amount of downloads of the app.

Also promoting the app on Facebook and twitter would be a great idea in my opinion.

Another point, if you can log into the app, would it be able to send "push notifications" when you get messages, mentions or replies in the forum?

Think this is a decent idea for promoting the game and getting new people/players in. If they have a taste of the practice version, then they'll probably want a slice of the real thing. Just need to make sure when someone searches "pool games" on Play, we're the 1st ones (or near enough) to show up.

I'm hoping it is mutually beneficial, and I will add facebook connectivity to the app when I add further interactive elements, although that may just start as a link.

I would like the game to be good enough for the promotion to occur virally.

Yes, pushing notifications across (when network is available) from funkypool would be a nice addition and wouldn't be that difficult to add.

Beats bejeweled blitz and angry birds. 2 games I've never played and wouldn't know where to start. Once you start a game like funkypool you're addicted to the gameplay, the competitiveness, and the great people. It's just getting the people to have a go and ruin their outside social life lol

Seems like a good idea though, if people fine it on their phone they may look the site up on google aswel and find this and bye bye social life as jim says lol.

True matty. Although it's also nice to know what's going on so people don't jump to conclusions. It's only human nature.

Nice work Nick i dont use phones but really beneficial to those that do. also nice about vs AI, do you plan on bringing it out in practice or friendly on here with difficulty levels. difficulty could be easy, moderate, hard, insane. Easy would mean miss most shots then gets harder, insane would be like a Seb at his best

I remember saying is a computer version doable? not to play but practice offline in case people have no internet or want a feel before signing up

Thats how it should be but you have to be tight on the cushion to not play backspin. anything from a cm gap means you can raise the cue and use backspin. This normally causes kicks though.

If nick can do that then would be good for all funky games. I remember nick saying touching ball couldnt be done as even though you know its touching the system would find a pixel so wouldnt be touching. Same here for cushions so long as it finds a pixel you may be able to use backspin
