none of the downfall of funkypool was to do with clans at all.
here are a few points (my opinion)..
it started to have a decrease since tournapoints and micro tounaments were created...
you can enter tournaments now and play 2 games and youve won it... winning 100 tournaments was a achievement years ago now its standard stuff
too many fake players also are playing taking away honest folks rank...
alot the top players have grown up started families... found new hobbies,,, or prefer to play on a console...
clans have ran there course not a honour to play its more of a chore people telling you when to be on... not turning up tactical subs... (quite sad tbh)
But hopefully something may crop up that may grab new audiences!

This is very true. Additionally, I think the Admin/ MODs also are to blame (just my thought), for being trigger-happy (or boot-out happy).. and deactivating primary accounts, leading to the creation multiple accounts.. to bring back those "happy" years, send "how are you" notes to the old ones :)
It's not about the game. The game is still very addictive for new players.
More and more people are now choosing tablets and phones instead of laptops. This game is not playable on that. Until this game becomes compatible with ipads and smartphones, numbers will continue to decline.
