I've done it and I love Windows 10, much better than the last few. Only thing is mine was on a brand new laptop so I don't know if an older laptop would be sluggish or not.

No issues with it at all.

It's very good apart from the constant automatic updates every day can cause the CPU usage to peak therefore increase the risk of lag whilst playing games.

Other than that it's a very simple and effective user interface, I disable Cortana as that sometimes acts thick and the media player you have to click on manual tracks as I found the playlists weren't kept. (New versions may differentiate now though).

I would recommend upgrading to Windows 10 but I do miss Window 8.1 at times as I never found the large squared icons or accessibility any trouble whatsoever.

Each to their own, XP is still my favourite though.

I upgraded from 7 to 10 on my laptop and now regret it, I find 10 can be very slow and some things take ages to load, maybe someone here can help me with that ?, I still have xp on my home pc and not planning on changing it yet.

If you don't like Windows 10 Alan you can always revert back to your previous versions. As long as you didn't upgrade via a USB boot menu and delete the partitions along the way?

I could suggest checking the Task Manager (CTRL+ ALT + DEL) and click on the Start-up tab. See if you can reduce the impact programs have when booting the laptop. That might help also the Running tab if I see any with a number behind (in brackets) them except any which are browser or java based I click on End Task. Runtime Brokers and Spoolers slow it down too. Highlight and click on End Task.

See if that helps.

Hey guys. Did you do any preparations before like backing up drivers or other data?
For sure it is recommended but did you experience any problems after upgrading so that you really needed the backup?

Migration from 7, 8 and 8.1 to windows 10 can make your system slow. The likely problem will be the old drivers (especially from 7) moving over to the new build.

I done the following and resolved all those issues.

Back up any photos, music etc to a external drive (USB pen drive or external hard drive)

Do the Windows 10 upgrade as this stamps your bios chip with a digital entitlement for windows 10. (you must do this part or your windows 10 will not be activated)

Have either a blank DVD Rom or a blank USB pen drive of at least 4GB and formatted to NFTS (USB pen).

Goto Microsoft and download your version of windows 10. That is either Home/Pro 32/64bit. Find this in your computers control panel/system. **Note this is the United Kingdom link.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO

Download and either burn to disk or make a bootable USB.

Do a clean install of windows 10 by booting from this new media. Custom install and delete all partitions to have 1 block of unallocated space. You can keep the previous partitions if you want too but you will have to clean up later if you are happy with the clean install. Do this through system tools through the control panel.

Things should run a lot better doing it this way

Is there maybe another way to get rid of the annoying "please update" window?
tbh i am quite satisfied with my windows version but the regular pop up is really stretching my nerves!
and in addition i dont wanna face all the work coming up when updating

Yes you can, goto windows update and view installed updates. Uninstall KB3035583 update. That should do the trick. Also you will need to 'hide' that update when it appears in your next 'check for updates' or windows will install it again. :)

i've not done the upgrade but my sister has Windows 10 and it looks and feels awful. 7 is still currently the best in my books and if microsoft stick to not releasing another and just updating Widnows 10... 7 will be the best for a long time to come.

I did a clean install then bought a new ssd drive, which i used to replace the 2 tarbyt hard drive and all is good boots so fast with in 60 sec.
But Windows XP is by for the best operating system ever.
But I also disabled Cortana as well. And you also need to disable the live tiles from the start tab as it is what couses all the lag or atleast adds to it.And it is very simple to do.
