Not a good start to the competition, Togo have pulled out after their team coach was attacked. The driver was announced dead and several players were injured.

Premiership players, Emmanuel Adebayor of Manchester City and Aston Villa's Mustafa Salifou will return home.

The competition will continue as normal though with the exclusion of Togo

Don't think other teams have dropped out when it's happened in cricket, I mean, we boycotted one match against Zimbabwe because of security issues. But think it was only one in the tournament to be boycotted, so unsure if other teams will follow suit or will just play

Away from the politics, onto the football and what a comeback from Mali in the opening game against Angola.

Angola coasting 4-0 up with just 11 minutes to go, but somehow Mali scored 4 goals in the last 11 minutes to draw 4-4.

Haven't Mali accused Algeria and Angola of match fixing their final group game?

Algeria 0-3 Egypt

(Still has three minutes...it's bound to change now...)

Absolutely farcical match, Algeria down to eight men.

Halliche got a yellow card for jumping for the ball, eyes away from the keeper, who also jumped in and got to the ball first. Wasn't a yellow, but it was given as one. A few minutes later, a ball over the top, Halliche mis-kicks, chases back and makes a poor challenge from behind to give away a penalty.

The penalty itself, Rabou runs up, stops, stops again and then side foots it home. We see players slowing on the run up a lot, but Rabou stopped. Now, the rules state the following:

The ball must be kicked after a run-up by the taker, who may slow his run but may not completely stop once the run-up has begun. If the taker scores after violating this rule, the kick must be re-taken.

He clearly stopped his run. The keeper, Chaouchi, then chases after the referee, grabs him, turns him around and pretty much headbutts him, except contact wasn't made. He then only receives a yellow...

Egypt then go 2-0 up from Zidan.

Nadir Belhadj, about five minutes after that goal, goes in, two-footed on Al Muhammadi, straight red, leg-breaking tackle if it makes enough contact.

Good goal from Egypt's and Abdelshafy to make it 3-0.

Then, Gedo is put through, keeper rushes out. The ball was played along the floor, so what does Chaouchi do? Goes in at the player at knee-height! Should be a straight red, but the referee decides to give him a second yellow then a red, doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but it still escapes me why he did it the way he did. Gaouaoui then came on for his debut.

After that, the ball was just passed around, was as though both teams had given up, but Gedo still managed to find himself in enough place to coolly slot home and, without starting a game, becomes the leading goalscorer in the competition. (I told you at the start that they'd score again.

Oh, and a poor performance from Nigeria, with some awful finishing, earlier allowed Ghana to win 1-0.

Final's on Sunday, third-place playoff is on Saturday.

Unlucky red.

A quality decision from the CAF to ban Togo from the next 2 African Nations Cups for withdrawing from these finals after having been machine-gunned.

I wonder if Sepp Blatter & Michel Platini were behind that - seems like the kind of mad decision they would make.
