I was cleaning up my programs in "Add or remove programs" and I deleted the sound by accident. Now I can't listen to anything on my computer because the sound has completely gone. Tried turning up the volume to see if had really gone and I can't do this. I've downloaded it from a website and it still wouldn't fix it. I have CD's that came with the computer still but nothing that will bring the sound back I think because it states something about restoring windows and I don't think doing that will solve it as it will wipe everything off?

Just need some advice on what to do...

Cheers

Josh

You have obv tried searching deleted items.

How about just trying a system restore? Just go back a day or two, dunno if it will work but its worth a try

Hiya, just noticed this!

Press <windows key>+BREAK to bring up system properties, select the hardware tab and click on Device Manager.

Looking down you will probably see a sound device with a mark on it.

Right click, select uninstall, confirm, and exit.

Reboot, and Windows will find it again and hopefully install the drivers again

Done that - It's searching for it but it's not finding anything. Been searching for 10 minutes...

EDIT: Says windows can't install the hardware because it cant find the necessary software.

Awkward one that then. If it's not giving you any clues, try to remember the drivers (device) name, or, if you've had the comp a while, roll back to before you uninstalled.

The wizard is trying to install the software 'Multimedia Audio Controller' - All I can say about it.

Oh well, just looks like I'll have to do without sound for a while

He needs to know what he has to know which drivers t download though

What kind of computer is it? Dell, HP etc have driver's specific to each model, so that can be a help.

Also, if its onboard sound, you can have a look for the motherboards drivers. Sound drivers will invariably be on the same site.

Mike is saying to try what i told you to Josh.

No it doesnt get rid of all ur files, it just takes you back the the previous setting etc u had on ur PC BEFORE YOU DELETED the sound. (it may change name of anything you have added SINCE ur sound went, but it shud let you know)

This is one of the few situations a system restore wont help. It's similar to a driver rollback - works fine so long as windows recognises the device.

Here you go - don't say i'm not good to you

ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3500/driver/audio.zip

Edit - because it's an FTP address, you'll have to copy/paste to your browser.
