AFAIK The AMD you said there would need a different, 64 bit version, operating system. IE XP 64. Besides that AMD don't appear to be performing very well of late, that said, I'm sure there are people that will disagree.

I'd go for the Intel.

Yep. It's become more and more dependant on the software you intend to run.

For sheer number crunching Intel still have the edge, for what thats worth.

Anyway, Intel have been proven recently to be still leading the processor 'race' so for now I would be tempted to stick with Intel.
