Okies, we've had this problem a few times recently, following a java update.

Strange that you can't uninstall Java though. Was this from the control panel>add remove programs?

Anyways, heres the running order of what to do :

Reboot the computer.

Without running anything, go to your control panel> add remove programs, and uninstall any versions of Java you have (there may be more than one)

Then, clear your browser history including downloaded program files.

Reboot.

Go to www.java.com for a new, clean, install.

If you're still having problems, do get back to us!

I think what spin was referring to is a restore.

U can get there in XP by using Start, my computer, help, help and support centre... then type restore in the search box and then u can follow the understanding system restore overviews, articles and tutorials to see when u can use the facility. I have found it works successfully for me in the past but I may add that I do have previous restore points on my PC.

Well, i wasnt meaning a restore, but that may well work!

All XP systems should have at least a weekly restore point.

System restore is an extremely useful tool, and before anyone asks, it doesn't delete any important files, and you can "roll forwards" again if you want.

I talked to xjuicyx, to check it was an admin account that was being used. Hopefully things will be going better now!

Yes it was a restore I was talking about. Has always worked for me. Try it as a last resort Jo if you need to.

Okay let me try...

Download and install the Windows installer cleanup utility from this link:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

Now run the program and find this program:

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 (1.6.0.0)

Select it and click remove.

Then go and install Java again, lets hope that fresh installation will sort things
